As one of the most livable cities in the world, Perth, the capital city of the state of Western Australia, has been attracting a lot of immigrants and tourists from many corners of the world. The reason why so many people come to Perth can be explained by the city's natural and environmental conditions as well as its socio-economic conditions. Perth has a Mediterranean climate with hot dry summer and cool dry winter. It is located in the middle of the land blessed with a variety of rich mineral deposit such as iron ore, gold, alumina, and so on. The city's advanced transportation infrastructure consisting of not only the highway system but also the railway and bus network supplies local people with reliable and convenient transport services. With the continuous inflow of people from overseas and other regions of the country, the population of this metropolitan region has constantly increased. Its population distribution pattern indicates that its citizens tend to choose to own their houses which are suitable of them according to their socio-economic attributes such as income, occupation, ethnicity, and so on. There exists a great deal of difference between wealthy areas close to the CBD and poor areas where aborigines live. Multiple views are required to attain not superficial but total understanding of this metropolitan region characterized by a complex variety of socio-economic factors.
