In this paper we focus on the economic activities of the Indian business groups in Thailand. In Chapter 1, we briefly outline the Indian Diaspora in Southeast Asian countries to clarify the characteristics of the Indian Diaspora in Thailand, There are two categories of the Indian Diaspora : PIO (Person of Indian Origin) who have the Indian Passport and NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) who don't have the Indian Passport. In Chapter 2, we focus on the economic activities of the Indian business groups in Thailand. There are three types of the Indian business groups. PIO group, NRIs group, and the new comer group from India to Thailand through Foreign Direct Investment. The representative business houses of the PIO group are ATEMS group, Diwanchand Kundanlal group, Siam Vidhya group, and GP group. The representative business houses of NRIs group are Aditya Birla group, Indo Rama Group. All these business houses have a long history in Thailand and deeply immersed in Thai society. On the other hand the representative new comer such as Tata group who came to Thailand after the liberalization of Indian economy started in 1991 has no close connection with those old comers of PIO and NRIs business groups. The inroads of Tata group in Thailand symbolize the phenomenon of “Rising New India.” It is clear that the central promotional power of Indian business groups has changed from the traditional traders such as Sikhs or Tamil Muslims to manufacturers such as Marwari, Gujarati, and the Tata group of Parsee.
