Two and one adult females of the pennellid copepod Lernaeenicus ramosus Kirtisinghe, 1956 were found infecting, respectively, a yellow grouper (Epinephelus awoara) from the East China Sea and a convict grouper (Hyporthodus septemfasciatus) from the Sea of Japan. The former finding of L.. ramosus represents the first record of this parasite from the East China Sea. Hyporthodus septemfasciatus is a new host record for L.. ramosus. Based on the current and present information on the occurrence of L.. ramosus in Japanese waters, it is likely that outbreaks of this parasite occurred in the 2000s among grouper populations in several waters of western Japan.
