Mr. Kan Kikuchi was a famous productive lengthy novel writer in Japan and published many popular lengthy novels such as Shinjiu Fujin (Pearl Lady, June 1920), Utsukusiki Shokunou (Beautiful Working Ladies, January 1941) etc. At the time when Mr. Kan Kikuchi published his novels it was still generally considered that women remained weaker than men in many respects, although the Taisyou democracy began to play an important role in people’s life. However, the heroines described in Mr. Kan Kikuchi’s novels claimed their own dignity, independence and freedom. This article focused on analyzing the new images of Japanese women whom Mr. Kan Kikuchi describes in his novels from points of view such as women and marriage.
