English Practice 1W, an English course for the freshman students of YNU, aims at reviewing the English grammar they have learned in junior and senior high school English classes, and achieving compositional skills for short essays. You can see their typical needs are classified into five categories, i.e., 1) the need for language fluency, 2) the need for the basic intra-paragraph organization skills, 3) the need for logical arrangement of paragraphs, 4) the need for communicative writing, and 5) the need for autonomous writing. I’d like to propose three types of adjustments for these five categories, i.e., 1) evaluation based on the number of both outbound and inbound messages written, 2) content-based teacher guidance, and 3) self-management of composition based on the checklists before and after the draft.
