Experiments on laser isotope separation of Zr atom were performed by using two different selective excitation schemes. One is based on the J=0→J=0 transition which is allowed only for the isotope with non-zero nuclear spin.The other is based on the isotope shift. It was pointed out for the former scheme that the population probablity of the initial state (4197cm-1) must be increased in order for high efficiency and selectivity. Selective ionization was observed the experiment using the latter scheme employing a single-longitudinal mode dye laser and a UV laser. The selectivity was limited by the Doppler width (400MHz) of the atomic vapor. This shows that higher selectivity could be obtained by a collimated atomic beam.
