"Residential area" studies in the geographical sphere of social studies comprise the teleological conception as well as the methodological one in the new course of study for junior high school which was published in 1977. In either case, they will be effective in understanding a base of geographical studies and need working studies in order to gain the better understanding of a large scale map. Industrial distributions in Sakurai City are some suitable teaching contents in "residential area" studies in Nara Prefecture. Writer proposes making full use of seven industrial groups, factories by "Oaza" and isoarithms in drawing up a distribution map of industry in Sakurai city.
