It is investigated how the concept of mass conservation, specific gravity, solubility and evaporational concretion is understood by children. The item for this study is the concentration and weight of table salt solution. The word association (WA) test entitled "Renso Game" is given to children in elementary schools in Nara and Osaka. The WA test is given before and after they learn the unit. Images formed in children on Science class are examined by the semantic differential (SD) method. The cluster analysis method is also employed to compare the results of pre- and post- WA tests. The findings are as follows; 1. Two types of children have a negative images on Science class. Some of them can understand the concept well and others have a poor understanding. 2. Some children enjoy experimetal works even if they understand little the concept of science. They are found to have very positive images on Science class.
