Studies of Immunoglobulins in Gastric Juice and Gastric Mucosa. III. Characterization of Parietal Cell Antibody in Serum and Gastric Juice with Respect to Immunoglobulin Analysis

The detection of the parietal cell antibody (referred to as PCA) in gastric juice and serum was studied with respect to determination of immunoglobulin classes using immunofluorescent procedure. PCA was detected in 12 out of 46 samples of gastric juice, on the other hand, it was detected in 14 out of 48 samples of serum. PCA was most frequently detected in the gastric juice of moderate atrophic gastritis group and in the serum of early gastric carcinoma group. It was noted that the predominant class of immunoglobulin of PCA was of IgG type in serum while it was of IgA type in gastric juice. The detection of PCA in both gastric juice and serum of the same individuals was carried out. In individuals possessing IgA type PGA in gastric juice, the same IgA type PCA failed to be detected in their sera. The S-IgA. concentration between PCA positive and negative groups was compared. It was noteworthy that S-IgA concentration in gastric juice was significantly higher in the PCA positive group. From these results, it was suggested that S-IgA may have PCA activity and that abnormal immune reaction occured in the secretory IgA system in the stomach independent of systemic immunity.
