This study has been done to demonstrate the difference in distribution of the antimycotic drug clotrimazole between animals inoculated with Candida albicans and controls. Rats of one clay and five days after inoculation and rats with wet pleurisy due to Candida albicans were used. In all cases, clotrimazole was administrated orally, and the level of its concentration in serum, liver, spleen, kidney, lung and pleural fluid was measured by bioassay at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12-hours after administration. At one day after inoculation, the level of clotrimazole in inoculated rats was higher than that of the controls in serum and these organs. This evidence seems to be a result of an increase in unmetabolized clotrimazole due to disturbed liver function, increased absorption in digestive organs and the abundant exudate containing clotrimazole, during acute inflammation, especially in the tissue of severely damaged kidney and liver. At five days after inoculation, the level of clotrimazole in serum was lower than that of the controls, which seems to result from decreased absorption in digestive organs with a worsened general condition. The level of clotrimazole in a whole kidney with many abscesses was lower than that of the controls. But the level in the kidney tissue apart from abscesses was not lower, so thin distribution in the abscesses might contribute to it. The level of clotrimazole in pleural fluid was observed to be the same as that in rerum.
