An immunofluorescent study on the distribution and the incidence of albumin containing hepatocytes in the rat liver was performed. A simple means of constant stirring of the fixatvie was carried out using a magnetic stirrer (Method of constant stirring). In a protein deficient diet group and a group administered with Puromycin a remarkable decrease in the number of albumin-positive cells was concentrated heavily around the central vein in the hepatic lobules. In group of protein-free diet, many fatty droplets within hepatocytes were observed frequently in this portion. Both groups thus treated showed that the fluorescent cells were in close contact with plasma protein and albumin. In summary, these results suggest that the fluorescent cells were in fact engaged in albumin production and moreover the method of constant stirring was highly useful for the determination of albumin-positive cells in the rat liver.
