The films of methyl linoleate, methyl linolenate and crude methyl oleate, containing ferric ion and tocopherol analogs, were autoxidized at 37℃ under air in a dark oven. The autoxidation was traced by determinations of peroxide value, UV absorption and malonaldehyde formation and following results were obtained, 1. Molar ratios of three products, peroxides, conjugated dienes, and malondialdehyde, formed from methyl linoleate, were in a range of 1 : 0.3-0.4 : 0.04-0.06 during the experimental period (96 hr.), showing that the amount of each of the products could reflect roughly the degree of peroxidation. Rapid decrease in values of the above three products by prolonged incubation showed no correlation between the three values and the decay of methyl linoleate. 2. Relative antioxidant activities of tocopherol analogs on oxidation of thin film methyl linoleate and methyl linolenate were δ > γ > α-tocopherols. 3. It was suggested that monohydroperoxide containing conjugated diene was rapidly converted into another form of hydroperoxide (s) having no conjugated diene in this experimental condition. 4. The present results could be regarded as a further support for the effectiveness of 5-tocopherol on the malodor of osmidrosis.
