In the preceding paper , the optimum design of a series reactor has been proved to be attained by designing the reactor similar to that of the magnetic shield type whose winding has a height of about 2/3 of its diameter. But in this case the reactor had a cylindrical winding and a core of circular cross section as conventional ones, which resulted in non-uniform distribution of the magnetic flux density in the yoke and then excessive volume and weight of the yoke. In this paper, the reactor having a core and a winding with rectangular horizontal corss section is discussed, which improves the magnelic flux density distribution in the yoke decreasing its weight. The three phase apparatus of practical importance is also discussed.
