In the preceding study of a series reacter having coils and cores with rectangular horizontal cross-sections, it was presumed that the weight of the yoke would be decreased by changing its cross－sectional area according to the amount of the magnetic flux running in its longitudinal direction. In this paper, the optimum design of the yoke is diseussed, which resulted in the considerable decrease of the yoke weight as well as the total weight of the reactor by sacrificing the small increase of iron loss. The reactor of the new design will be set in the practical use by proving its characteristics using a proper size model.
