The present investigation was conducted to examine whether the relationship, found by Chaikin ei al. (1975), between neuroticism and self-disclosure reciprocity held true with Japanese female college students or not. A 2×2 factorial design was used, which incorporated the subjects groups ("normal", NM, and "neurotic", NR) and intimacy conditions (high and low). 60 junior college female students served as subjects. The main findings were as follows: (1) Both NM and NR showed highly intimate disclosure in "high Intimacy Condition", and low intimate disclosure in "low Intimacy Condition". (2) Though group differences did not reach statistical significance, there was somesuggestion that, in "high Intimacy Condition", NR, as compared with NM, tended to respond with lower intimacy. These results were discussed with reference to related studies.
