It is necessary to understand the topographic anatomy of the lung to accurately estimate lesions and the precise stage of diseases. There have been many previous reports of the topographic anatomy of the lung relating to the diagnosis or operation of pulmonary tuberculosis. Recently this information has become the foundation for research on lung cancers. For diffuse lung diseases, it has been almost impossible to estimate the precise locations in the lung. However the appearance of computerized tomography has changed the ability of diagnosis of peripheral structures of the lung, at the level of the pulmonary lobule. To estimate the location of these, a normal human right lung, obtained from a 65-year-old male, was examined. The lung was inflated and fixed by following Heitzman's method. The system of bronchial branching consists of regular dichotomy and irregular dichotomy, named daughter branches, which supply the alveoli between regular dichotomy. The number of branchings from the first division of the lobar bronchus to the terminal bronchiole was from nine to twenty, with the smallest in the hilar region and the largest in S10c. Pulmonary lobules ranging in diameter from 0.5 to less than 2cm were supplied by bronchiole with diameters less than 1mm. They were not necessarily separated from other pulmonary lobules by connective tissue septa and were supplied by an average cluster of three to five terminal bronchioles. The average number of branchings from the lobular bronchiole to the terminal bronchiole was two to three. In the area supplied by daughter branches pulmonary arteries didn't necessarily run along the bronchi, in some cases they were supplied from neighboring pulmonary lobules. Bronchial venous plexus were seen to be supplied from the wall of the bronchi and vessels, as the daughter branches were from the pulmonary veins.
