In this paper resultative constructions are analyzed in terms of their scalar properties:in normal resultatives based on transitive constructions, the temporal scale denoted by verbal activities/events and the property scale denoted by resultative adjectives or prepositional phrases are fused into a unified scale under the condition of 'isomorphism' of sub-events. Based on the observation that resultatives can be regarded functionally as a construction that describes idiosyncratic events in general, I propose that the notion of 'significant transition' in scale is the semantic core of resultatives and that from this notion we can derive apparently complex restrictions on resultative phrases. In contrast to normal resultatives, fake object resultatives which are exempted from the condition of 'isomorphism' are shown to behave differently in several respects:telicity, intensifying readings, and a range of varied extensions with required interpretation mechanisms. In addition, general properties of resultatives are compared with those of the way construction, another construction which involves the notion of 'significant transition' to describe idiosyncratic events.
