The purpose of this study was to clarify rational techniques of running long jump on school children. In the experiment, filming the take-off movement was administrated. Subjects were thirty-four males and thirty-two females in the fifth grade of elementary school. Dynamic variables such as displacement, velocity and angle were obtained from the film analysis. Then, the linear regression equation to estimate jumping distance from run-up velocity was calculated. The differences (residual) between estimated distance and measured distance were calculated. The rational techniques were investigated by clarifying the relationships between residual and dynamic variables. Results were as follows : 1. Diminishing deceleration during take-off was important technical factor to lengthen jumping distance. 2. In females, diminishing loss in landing to sand-pit was important technical factor to lengthen jumping distance. 3. Contacting foot far the body leaded to higher take-off angle, but it seemed to be disadvantageous because of growing decelerating during take-off. 4. Movement stretching leg against the ground and inclining upperbody backward in the contact seemed to be disadvantageous for females because of growing deceleration during take-off.
