In relation to the suppuration of the pneumolysis cavity after the extrapleural pneumolysis with apical invagination by pleural suture, we investigated the distribution of bacterium in the lung, the change of it, and the increasement and decreasement of the bacterium, which are considered to be one of the sources causing suppuration, using rabbits and obtained the following results. The positive reactions of bacterium in a healthy rabbit were 75-0x1.ac440bfeaaf9p-1t the bronchiolum, 53 0x1.16c6572206e49p+839t the peripheral lung parenchyma, and the numbers and species of bacterium were classified into two groups which were, 1) cases with few numbers of bacterium, 2) cases with considerable numbers, both in the bronchiolum and lung parenchyma. In the latter there was a tendency of decreasement the same as in the peripher, from the main bronchus to the lobe bronchus to the lobular bronchus. On the contrary, concerning the numbers of bacterium, cases with in numerable bacterium were discovered in the peripheral lung parenchyma, which was considered to be so called "blown together". The species of bacterium were definitely abundant in the region near the outside. The connection between the increasement and decreasement of bacterium at the region of pulmonary suture, and the elapsed time after operation, is closely related to the method of operation. The bacterium became negative continuously from the region of suture after a certain period, which agrees histologically with the course of orgnaization and cicatrization of the sutured region. On the other hand, in the region where there is no effect of the collapse near the sutured portion, there is n change in the distribution of bacterium.
