This paper is a study of spatial recognition of geographical knowledge and geography education through surveys of high school students. The resources utilized in its preparation include papers on geographical knowledge, geography education and the surveys of spatial recognition about foreign countries, prefectures and their capitals in Japan, and pictures of geographical features from Japan and foreign countries.Now is the globalization age. However, I think many high school students have poor geographical knowledge of foreign countries recently. It seems one of reasons is that few students take courses in geography. I think it is very important to understand geographical phenomenon including the location of foreign countries and their names. Then I found the newspaper article about the survey on recognition of foreign countries conducted by the Association of Japanese Geographers in Feb. 2005. That's the reason I made the survey of global geography to discover our students' knowledge of the subject. I gave the surveys of foreign countries, Japanese prefectures and their capitals, and the geographical pictures to investigate the geographical knowledge of students, and also to analyze the present condition investigate the geographical knowledge of students, and also to analyze the present condition of geography education especially in senior high schools.
