Modal birefringences in photonic crystal fibers withsix air holes symmetrically arranged around the core region andwith multiple air holes in hexagonal lattice are numerically investigatedin detail. It is confirmed from computed results obtained bya full-vector finite element method that both the hexagonal holeyfibers are not birefringent, namely, the two fundamental modes aredegenerate.
