The mis-use of the“be"verb is often found among Japanese learners of English. Using data collected from Kanto Gakuin University's College of Engineering first year students'results taken from the placement test and grammar confirmation tests over the course of one semester, this mis-use of the“be"verb has been analyzed. Even after studying(re-studying)the use of English verbs, this inaccurate use of the“be"verb has not been corrected. It appears that its excessive use has become fossilized among some Japanese learners of English.
