This paper aims to clarify the essentials for the regional development of the developing countries by showing necessary factors for the Japanese companies that play the crucial role in many developing countries.Analyses are based on information obtained by postal questionnaire sent to 52 Japanese companies in 9 states of Malaysia in September 2002.This paper made it clear that factors necessary for Japanese companies are biased to some developed states as Selangor and Penang on points of quantity and quality and that the government policies as development of industrial estates and supply of financial incentives to companies do not contribute for companies to advance to backward regions as much as expected.Only some prudence of companies, as gaining much information about regions to avoid misjudgment or possession of service units to compensate scarcity of services in backward regions, is barely contributing to geographical dispersion of Japanese companies. On the whole, it is difficult to expect that Japanese companies will extensively advance to backward regions and lead the development of regional economies without any countermeasures. The government hereafter will be required to take drastic measures and the results of this paper will become helpful for it.
