The complex beam parameter can be used to facilitate the design of a quasi-optical transmission line which converts the output of a submillimetre wave gyrotron into a wellcollimated, linearly polarized beam. Thequalityof thebeam produced by the quasi-optical antenna is improved further by removing any sidelobes. Only a small fraction of the beam power is sacrificed.
