The mechanism of cell division is achieved by two coordinated processes, Karyokinesis and Cytokinesis. These processes are closely connected with mitotic apparatus which occupies a large part of the volume of cell in an advance of cell division. The writer has carried out several experiments for the analysis of the mitotic apparatus, using grasshopper spermatocytes and eggs of some marine invertebrates. In conclusion, the data present in this paper with respect to properties of the mitotic apparatus, are summarized as follows:1. Mitotic apparatus is a coherent body having properties of a gel, and consists of fibrous structure.2. Chromosomal fibers connecting kinetochore and pole have a morphological basis in livingspindle.3. The chromosomal fibers and the interzonal fibers differ from each other in structure and certain other physical properties.4. An initial separation of chromosome is autonomous, and its subsequent movement to their respective pole, depends upon actions of the chromosomal fiber.5. The position of a constriction furrow is established in close connection with a position of the mitotic apparatus before metaphase. However, beyond early anaphase, a plane of division can proceed its way without the presence of the mitotic apparatus.6. This seems to show that, by early anaphase, cleavage mechanism is determined on cell surface as a ring under influence of inner structures, such as nucleus and the mitotic apparatus.
