In order to improve a CO_2 arc welder, the investigations were made on the effects of windy conditions on the welds, the concentration of non-arc shielding gas, and the extension (distance of the nozzle from the base metal) by using the new type nozzle (C-type), based on swirling vortex motion, which has been devised by us. Results were smmarized as follows : (1) The new type nozzle was, in windy conditions better than other type nozzles. (2) The performance of the wind-proof nozzle was proved by measuring the concentration of non-arc shielding gas. (3) The effect of wind-proofing increased with the decrease of the extension.
