The Rat Race circuit is a kind of hybrid circuiｔ with four ports on a loop of transmission lines.　lts characteristic qualities were investigated by Mr. lto. ln this paper a discription is given of the operation of the Rat Race circuit in terms of its cascade matrix，admittance matrix，(2,2). Port image parameters and mode separation. Although the usual way of termination of the Rat Race circuit is not based upon its image parameters， it is shown that a perfect impedance matching and a perfect isolation are simultaneously attainable at the center frequency. 　　The treatment suggests that certain improvements， e.g. broadbanding of the Rat Race circuit，can be introduced through the adoption of external immittance compensation.
