We have reported that amphiphilic triblock peptide-polymer hybrid, poly(styrene)-tetra(leucine)-poly(ethyleneglycol) (PS-L_4-PEG), forms supramolecular aggregates both in water and in toluene, which are stabilized by β-sheet network of tetra(leucine) domain. Here we report the formation of water-toluene nanoemulsion using PS-L_4-PEG as polymeric surfactant, and its application as template for nanogel synthesis. Nanogels of poly( acrylic acid) (PAA) and poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) were prepared through photopolymerization of the corresponding monomers and crosslinker in water-toluene nanoemulsion. Characterization of these nanogels was carried out by FTIR, AFM, and TEM analyses. As a result, it was found that PAA nanogels with a diameter of 100-200 nm and PNIPAM nanogels with a diameter of 300 nm were successfully obtained. In addition, the size of PNIPAM nanogels was thermo-responsive.
