• In this study, we examined the tactile impression of some pairs of the shaded texture image and its 180 degrees rotated one. The shaded texture images were made based on fine 3D texture model. In the experiment, we asked participants to freely express the impression of the texture by means of onomatopoeia. As a result, evaluation for most of the texture images tended to alter in terms of the number of consonants used by the participants. The result suggests that the difference between the vertical directions of the fine shadow patterns causes some perceptions resulting in a variety of textures feeling like perforations, spires, or roughness.
