Dissolution of cellulose in water was studied under temperature of 350-400℃, pressure of 25MPa (to cover water critical point, 374℃, 22.064MPa) in the continuous flow reactor. Cellulose slurry concentration was varied from 0.1 to 10wt% and residence time was varied from 0.5 to 5 s. Cellulose slurry was fed into the flow reactor by using a piston pump so that reaction took place in the reactor heated by the electric furnace. The effluent was delivered to the heat exchanger for reducing temperature, and was sampled. The product was kept and analyzed by HPLC and TOC analyzers. Cellulose slurry conversion in water ranged from 0.1 to 0.8, depending on the cellulose slurry concentration in the feedstock. For low concentration, high conversion in range of 0.6-0.8 was obtained. On the contrary, for high concentration, low conversion in the range of 0-0.1 was observed. Cellulose conversion was directly affected by the temperature and residence time.
