• In this report, current status on development of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are introduced. SOFC is a kind of fuel cell using ceramic oxide ion conductor as the electrolyte and operated at high temperatures. Because it has the highest power generation efficiency in the variety of fuel cells, SOFC have received much attention. Therefore, currently, SOFCs are being developed as a high efficiency power generator from a household to an alternative to thermal power generation system. Sale of household SOFCs, which named "Ene-farm Type-S", began two years ago. The challenge now is in the improvement of durability and to reduce costs, and SOFCs are being developed from that point of view.
