For judgment to allow the coexistence of an additional radio communication system (generally, secondary system) and an existing one (primary system), we have proposed a signal detection scheme to detect the secondary signal from the mixed signal of the primary and secondary systems. The detection scheme consists of the signal canceller and feature detection functions. Although we have conducted the software-simulated performance evaluation in terms of correct detection probability, there is no detailed study on mathematical analysis. We derive the analytical formula using the stochastic theory to validate the software simulation results of the proposed signal detection scheme with and without the cancellation of the stronger primary signal. Since the signal in the feature detection is composed of the secondary and primary signal components, and the noise component, the Rice distribution is used to model the distribution of the feature detection output. Performance evaluation study shows that analytical results match with simulation ones.
