The widespread proliferation of multimedia compression standards and Internet technologies increasingly demands to provide ease of distribution together with content protection. To provide content security, a variety of encryption technologies have already been developed. However, direct encryption on compressed audio like MPEG audio leads to uncontrollable distortion. Amplitudes of encrypted audio contents are out-of acceptable audio ranges and Huffman decoding of those results creates synchronization problems. In this system, low-complexity partial encryption scheme for MPEG audio is presented. The aim is to provide listeners with sample-quality audio that can be upgraded to full-quality by simply acquiring a key and then decrypting parts of the already available data. Sample-quality can be obtained by scaling amplitude ranges of the encrypted result. Resulting scaled audio can be successfully decoded by any MPEG standard decoder. In this system, AES algorithm is used for encryption and percentage of encryption can be adjusted depending on the security requirement of the underlying application.
