The present study investigated the relationship between psychophysiological responses and performance during a badminton serve. Twenty-five participants completed the six conditions based on the factor of service (two; short and long) and the factor of receiver (three; nothing, one receiver, and two receivers). Each condition consisted of one practice and ten service trials, and the inter-trial interval was 45 seconds. The participant reported the subjective evaluation for each service trial. They completed the questionnaire to evaluate theirstate of anxiety before each condition and the questionnaire to evaluate their psychological competitive ability after the experiment. The serving performance was divided into successes and faults. Heart rates were recorded before, during, and after the badminton serve. The performance of the short service showed higher rates thanthat of the long service. The scores of the subject evaluation and the state of anxiety were not significant. The heart rate during the long serve increased more than that of the short serve with two receivers. The heart rate during the short serve after 12 to 20 seconds of impact time increased more than that of before the impact time. On the other hand, the heart rate during the long serve after 6 to 8 and 12 seconds of impact time increased more than that of before the impact time. The scores of self-control, concentration, and relaxation were correlatedwith the performance. The findings suggested that the factors of server and receiver affected the heart rate differently.
