In order to form a low frictional surface on sintered Poly-cBN, pulse laser processing was adopted. The laser processing can brings about phase transition from cBN to hBN which might provide low friction. Firstly, tribological characteristics of the laser processed surface were investigated by using of FT-IR and FFM. As a result, the hBN layer was formed on the PcBN surface providing low friction as a solid lubricant. Coefficient of friction of the laser processed PcBN obtained with the FFM is about half as much as that of unprocessed PcBN. The laser processed PcBN with low frictional surface was employed as a cutting tool. Cutting test was carried out in order to estimate coefficient of friction on rake face. By use of the laser processed tool, coefficient of friction was reduced by about 15%.
