In the US, the 1996 Telecommunications Act relaxed entry and ownership restrictions in the broadcast industry. Recent research has examined the influences of this regulation on the rate of profit, quality of broadcast programming, and price of advertising according to the degree of industry concentration. This paper examines the differences in the analytical methods used in four recent works and identifies the significant features of the US broadcast industry.
