It has been widely acceptable that as a heat island problem gets more serious, the surrounding buildings also demand more energy for cooling especially during the summer season. Choenggye stream in Seoul, Korea restored in September 2004 presumably would have an environmental effect on their surrounding areas. The Korea Meteorological Administration reported that restored Choenggye stream lowered the temperature of surrounding area within 500m by 1.25℃. Using this data and TRNSYS program, we simulated the cooling load reduction of a large number of buildings classified by occupancy, built era and total area And then, total reduction of cooling loads for one month of August in the investigated area was computed. In result, it was found that the cooling load reduction was as much as approximately 341Mwh(15.080%).
