The novel extraction method for trace pesticide analysis used by emulsion formation-reflocculation effect controlled with ultrasound was developed. The trace pesticide in water was extracted to chloroform by liquid-liquid extraction under O/W (oil-in-water) emulsion formation with low frequency ultrasound irradiation. Subsequently, the O/W emulsion was broken down under ultrasonic irradiation with high frequency (2.4MHz) for 10 minutes. The deflocculated chloroform was replaced to acetone under N_2 flow, and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was carried out to pesticide detection. The ultrasound-assisted microextraction (UAME) method could effectively extract the fenitrothion (MEP) which is the one of pesticide ingredient in sample water to chloroform than the conventional shake extraction method. Because the surface area of chloroform phase was extremely increased by the generation of O/W emulsion; a higher efficiency extraction of MEP was achieved. The O/W emulsion was homogeneously distributed in solution, the high extraction efficiency and high concentration rate will able to be obtained in any shape of test tube. Hence, the on-site pesticide extraction at criminal field is able to be carried out without hydrolysis in solution.
