Naturally occurring hydroxyapatite (HAp) generated as a waste product in the food manufacturing process dissolved in acidic aqueous solution was re-precipitated in the presence of TiO_2 nanoparticles by the addition of alkaline to form HAp-TiO_2 composite. The synthesized composites were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, SEM, XRF, XPS, BET and the photocatalytic activities were evaluated by the decomposition of acetaldehyde under UV light illumination. When ultrasound was irradiated during the re-precipitation process, the product exhibited superior photocatalytic activities to those in the absence of ultrasound, which could be attributable to high specific surface area of the sonicated HAp.
