Separation behaviour in separation through ultrasonic atomization can be expressed by a strings model. Especially, in the case of ethanol-water mixture, the strings linearly comprises two characters E and W, those defines ethanol and water molecules. Existing ratio of E and W in a string is decided according to molar concentration of ethanol in the mixture. The strings are stochastically derived in first step. Ultrasonic vibration power cuts somewhere corresponding to the bonding energy strength between two adjacent molecules on a string. The fragments formed by bond cuttings are mist atomized by ultrasound. Smaller fragments (nano-meter scale mist) are passing through gate of fractionation. Larger fragments (splash, micro-meter scale mist) are remaining in the bulk solution. The ratio of E and W in smaller fragments through the gate of fractionation accords the concentration of ethanol in atomized mist. The model can well explain the experimental results of separation through ultrasonic atomization and the observed cluster data by mass spectrometer.
