This paper deals with the study on structual design of earth supports obtained from 25 sites during underground construction. The analyzed data of behaviors on braced excavation and "Sakauti" method by hypothetical support theory shows that : (1) The lateral eatrh pressure acting on retaining wall during underground construction is not same with active earth pressure acting on wall, it is nearly equal to (but less than) the effective rest earth pressure on passive side where excavation is carried out. (2) The hypothetical support theory can be used in every methods of structual design of earth supports for underground construction.
