The dynamic stability problem of a machine and structure is one of the important subjects for a long time. Recently, a machine and structure is considered to be a relatively flexible structure to the load as it is large-sized and light-weighted. That is why the dynamic stability problem becomes more and more important. The most cases have been analyzed considering that a working direction of the load is not affected by the deflection of the structure in the conventional dynamic stability analysis. Namely, many problems of the analysis have been dealt with as a conservative system. However, there are recently many problems which are affected by fluids such as wind and water in a space structure and marine structure. The loads subjected to these fluids often change the working direction according to the deflection of the structure as a follower force. That is, the treatment as the nonconservative system becomes necessary. In this paper, the nonconservative stability is investigated by considering the fluid force as an axial load for a beam subjected to axial flow. The fundamental study is performed by using the discrete model of 2 degree of freedom system. Moreover, this is expanded to the continuous system of a cantilever. And, the physical consistency between a discrete model and a continuous one and the effect of damping are discussed.
