It has been reported that a solid-like interfacial layer can be formed between polymer sublayers and liquid crystals from the investigation of viscoelastic properties of the interfacial layers using a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). In the present study, formation processes of the interfacial layers were investigated for various liquid crystals. The results indicated that the thickness and the formation rate of the solid interfacial layer were strongly dependent both on the length of alkyl chain and on the number of polar groups within a liquid crystal molecule.
