Since the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, expectations and requirements for technologies that can contribute to energy conservation is very high. To solve this problem, the effective use of renewable energy from sunlight and wind is very important. Furthermore since energy efficiency can be improved, reuse of the waste heat has been also paid attention. Thermoelectric generator is a technique for directly converting heat into electricity. Since the oxide thermoelectric conversion device is excellent in heat resistance over 600℃, it has been expected to apply where the existing waste heat recovery technology can not be available. In this paper we will review the features of the oxide-based thermoelectric materials, and the status of the development and demonstration tests using these devices.
