• The situation of Japanese biomass utilization is introduced based on its history and recent topics. Japanese biomass resources are limited and its availability is 5 % of the primary energy supply. Presently, Japan is in the third boom of biomass utilization, and various measures are being taken. Recent topics includes bioethanol, the Fundamental Plan for Biomass Utilization Promotion, feed-in-tariff, and Asia Biomass Towns. Distribution of technology and information on biomass utilization is to be promoted.
