• The purpose of this paper is to compare the different translations of the Bible in terms of readability. The understanding the Bible plays an indispensible role to appreciate the western cultures, yet few endeavors have been made to illustrate the differences in readability between various versions. All of the versions selected for the analysis are widely circulated in all English speaking countries. Excerpts from the Scripture are first analyzed useing an online tool and other computerized tools. The results were then compared with my subjective opinion of them. Some stylistic features of the translations are also briefly examined to seee how they influence the readability. This study will hopefully assists teachers and students to choose an appropriate translation of the Bible to better understand Christianity.
