Objective: The aim of this study is to develop a system model for dietary management in elderly care facilities based on Dietary Reference Intakes for Japanese , 2010 (DRIs-2010).Methods: The framework of the system model was constructed according to the basic theory of application in DRIs-2010 , and then the system model was developed using the data in an elderly care facility. The probability of nutritional deficiency was calculated from the individual habitual intake of nutrients and, in addition , the proportion of the nutrient deficiency in the group was calculated from the probability method and the EAR cut-point method.Results: These results revealed that supplied nutrition levels of retinol equivalent, V.B1, V.B2, V.C, Ca, Mg, and Zn were less than EAR. Thus there may be the deficiencies in these nutrients. The prevalence of deficiencies in these nutrients were 38.9%, 36.1%, 22.2%, 92.4%, 99.9%, 81.3% and 95.1%, respectively.Conclusion: It will be possible to evaluate systematic and precise nutritional states of individuals and groups using the system model based on DRIs-2010. The system model may improve the quality of nutritional management in elderly care facilities.
