In Japanese class in the technical college focusing on "speaking", it is important to pay attention to learner'sawareness. Compared to other learning areas, including "reading", "listening" and "writing", "speaking" is associatedwith a feeling of tension.This study discusses the class that students can learn oral expression, which is one of the basics of "speaking", inan enjoyable learning environment.The "relay-speech", where students were told to relay the message instantly, was carried out in the Japanese classesfor the third-grade students. The outline of the activity is as follows.- Five to ten students relay the message at one time- Each speech lasts about one minute- Students have to start "relay-speech" instantly- Students have to continue relevant speech topics- Teacher changes the speech topics, if necessaryQuestionnaire survey conducted after the classes shows that "relay-speech" seems to help students acquire theirconfidence in making a speech.It is considered that the "relay-speech" is effective in that it enhances student's speaking ability, or communication skills.
