• Error production by foreign language users is often caused by L1 (forst language) interference. Identifying and correcting these errors is a major challenge for language teachers and learners. An error analysis of minor categories of English syntax as used by Japanese speakers was used to clarify the L1 issues involved in error production in these syntactical structures and suggestions were made for creating better teaching pedagogies.
