Euroregion is a cross-border cooperation among local communities which are located astride the national border. When the communist regimes in Eastern Europe collapsed in 1989, East European countries expected to integrate themselves into the West European Organizations - for example, EC and NATO -. However their expectation could not realize immediately. Then, they organized several subregional cooperations in order to promote suitability in their region. Euroregion is one of such subregional cooperations at the micro-level. At the border area between Czech Republic and Germany, there are 6 euroregions. Among them, activities of Euroregion Egrensis and Euroregion Nisa/Nysa/Neisse are most prosperous. The main concern of their cooperation is different according to each euroregion. Euroregion Egrensis concentrates on the economic cooperation and Euroregion Nisa's main concern is the environmental problems. Both obtain the assistance of INTERREG and PHARE program of EU Regional Committee. Because of this assistance euroregions can take the action for the region as a unit. On the other side there are criticism that Germany tries to subordinate Czech Republic by means of euroregion and euroregion violates the sovereignty of the state. However, through the activities of euroregion, people who live in it is going to establish the identities with the region which is different from the identity with a state. Then euroregion is expected to contribute to the security and confidence building measure.
